General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

Crisis en Ceuta y actualidad política, en directo | Sánchez y Feijóo se acusan mutuamente de “cronificar” la crisis de Ceuta
El líder del PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, y el presidente del Gobierno, Pedro Sánchez, se han acusado este miércoles mutuamente de “cronificar” la crisis de Ceuta, cada uno con sus acciones, en una sesión de control al Ejecutivo en el Congreso marcada por la situación en la ciudad autónoma y las tensiones por la ley de nietos. Feijóo le ha acusado de hacerlo al no devolver a Marruecos a todos los migrantes que siguen en Ceuta, pese a que Rabat dice que está dispuesto a recibirlos. Por su parte, el presidente afirma que, al abogar los populares en el Parlamento Europeo por romper el acuerdo de asociación con Marruecos, el país al que tienen que volver los migrantes, lo que hacen es “cronificar el problema, no resolverlo”. Además, la reforma de las leyes de dependencia y discapacidad se enfrenta al último debate antes de su aprobación definitiva, después del veto del Gobierno a las enmiendas incorporadas por el PP en el Senado junto a Junts y otros grupos por suponer un incremento presupuestario. Si no hay sorpresas, está previsto que se apruebe la reforma esencialmente, tal y como salió del Congreso el pasado mes de julio, sin los cambios que el PP ha introducido en el Senado con acuerdos con Vox, Junts, PNV y BNG.Seguir leyendo

El Ejecutivo de Isabel Díaz Ayuso ha reducido el último escándalo en su sanidad a disputas entre médicos. Su consejera de Sanidad, Fátima Matute, fue la encargada de anunciar al término de la jornada del martes que están investigando si dos responsables en el Hospital Ramón y Cajal rebajaron la prioridad de las cirugías a pacientes en lista de espera a espaldas de los médicos que habían valorado a esos enfermos, como había revelado EL PAÍS. Pero la propia Matute cuestionó la credibilidad del denunciante, el cirujano Luis Alberto Martos, y adelantó el desenlace: todo es correcto, según dijo. Interior prepara la instalación de dos centros de identificación permanentes para migrantes en Ceuta y Melilla con 800 plazas cada uno
Dos meses y medio después de la entrada masiva en Ceuta, el Gobierno trabaja en dos flancos complementarios: acelerar la instalación de los emplazamientos para realojar a los migrantes con el propósito de sacarlos de la calle y, a la vez, identificarlos dentro de esos recursos para agilizar los trámites de expulsión. Porque los expedientes de retorno se inician una vez se haya completado la filiación individual de cada persona. El presidente Sánchez anunció el lunes por la noche, en una entrevista en La Sexta, que el propósito es habilitar 10.000 plazas en suelo ceutí. Ese número comprende tanto las camas temporales que están siendo habilitadas estos días —y cuya instalación continúa—, como otro establecimiento que prepara Interior con 800 camas para realizar los procesos de identificación y que se instalará de forma permanente.
