Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

El mapa de Ceuta 50 días después de la entrada: más de 10.000 migrantes entre centros y asentamientos informales
Este viernes se cumplieron 50 días desde que irrumpieron más de 80.000 personas en Ceuta, una ciudad situada en la costa norte del continente africano con una población acostumbrada a las noticias de inmigración y al sonido de las sirenas acudiendo a la frontera con Marruecos. Durante unas horas, la mañana del 30 de julio, la frontera española dejó de existir. Se abrieron las puertas para evitar una tragedia humana mayor —hubo casi 100 muertos— y, aunque hasta 70.000 personas regresaron a Marruecos por el mismo camino en las siguientes horas, según datos del Gobierno, más de 10.000 siguen atrapadas, en una especie de limbo. Ceuta se resigna a vivir en la excepción
Husam Yamal y Samir Bonaya se despertaron el sábado por la mañana muy temprano en la playa de El Trampolín, en Ceuta, donde duermen en una tienda de campaña desde que entraron ilegalmente por la frontera el 30 de julio, se asearon como pudieron y se fueron al trabajo: los dos, argelinos, de 33 y 26 años, son pintores, y a juzgar por los vídeos que muestran en sus móviles, buenos y detallistas. Los ceutíes los contratan por días, a veces por 50 euros cada uno, a veces por 20 los dos. No hay tarifa fija. Se ven obligados a aceptar lo que les ofrezcan. Para encontrar trabajo se plantaron en las tiendas de materiales de pintura y así contactaron con los clientes. Hoy ya saben dónde tienen que ir. Mientras Husam y Samir van a su trabajo, Alejandra Romero, de 40 años, vecina de la ciudad, cirujana en el hospital de Ceuta, va al suyo. Si le toca entrar de urgencias, lo hace con miedo y con una angustia considerable: desde la entrada masiva de inmigrantes, hace 50 días, una guardia es un pasaporte seguro para el enloquecimiento. “Vienen inmigrantes con traumatismos, con navajazos, con perdigonazos, con heridas por peleas: casi dos o tres al día. Graves. Y voy con miedo porque aquí no hay un cirujano plástico, ni un cirujano cardiólogo; estoy yo sola para todo. Y si uno de esos navajazos toca el corazón, no sé…”.Seguir leyendo

Paloma, madre de 15 hijos y premiada por Ayuso: «He tenido que saltar muchos obstáculos, siempre con la ayuda de mi marido y de Dios»
En España hay alrededor de 800.000 familias numerosas con título oficial en vigor. La gran mayoría, hablamos del 61%, está compuesta por parejas con tres hijos, y comunidades como Andalucía, Cataluña y Madrid concentra la mayor parte de estos hogares. En este contexto, con España con una de las tasas de natalidad más bajas de Europa - en 2025 se registraron 321.164 nacimientos, apenas un 1% más que el año anterior - hay historias que se hacen virales, generando un amplio debate. Paloma Carmona González rompe las estadísticas y reivindica un estilo de vida poco común. «Nunca planifiqué cuántos hijos tendría, simplemente confiamos en Dios y así llegaron los quince», cuenta con una sonrisa. Esta madrileña de Rivas Vaciamadrid es madre de 15 hijos, y fue distinguida el pasado año por la presidenta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, «por su esfuerzo y dedicación total a su gran familia». Con este galardón, el Gobierno regional quiso poner en valor un modelo de familia que contrasta con la actual realidad demográfica española. «Mi familia nace hace 40 años cuando mi marido, Luis Ángel Soler Areta, y yo decidimos casarnos por la Iglesia y confiando en que Dios siempre estuviese en medio de nuestro matrimonio», explica Paloma en una entrevista. «Él ha sido fiel, ha estado grande y estamos alegres», añade, aunque reconoce que no todo ha sido fácil. Estudió Administrativo, pero decidió no trabajar para volcarse completamente en la crianza. «Ha sido fantástico no perderme ni un momento de sus vidas. He renunciado a mucho, pero he recibido más», asegura. Paloma considera la maternidad su auténtica vocación: «Ser madre es una carrera sin meta en la que he tenido que saltar muchos obstáculos, siempre con la ayuda de Luis y de Dios, que llega donde yo no puedo». Hoy, entre hijos, nietos, yernos y nueras, la familia suma 53 miembros y presume de una relación muy estrecha: «Nos queremos, nos perdonamos y nos ayudamos; somos una piña». Ella y su marido, integrantes del Camino Neocatecumenal, han educado a sus hijos «en el amor, el perdón y la confianza en Dios», con la Virgen María como referente espiritual. Paloma recuerda que, tras la ceremonia, muchos se sorprendieron de la armonía familiar: «La gente se pregunta cómo nos organizamos, pero cuando vienen a casa lo que más les impacta es la relación que tenemos entre todos». «Nunca imaginé que me premiarían por ser madre. En esta sociedad no se valora la familia ni la vida, y mucho menos la maternidad. Pero yo solo puedo decir que he sido, y sigo siendo, muy feliz», concluye.

Móstoles Sur impulsa el alquiler accesible: 249 viviendas de protección pública con prioridad para los vecinos
El acceso a la vivienda sigue siendo el primer problema para los españoles , según el barómetro del Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) de septiembre, con un 37,5% de menciones. Por su parte, el estudio 'El Coste de la Vivienda y la Pobreza Oculta en España: 2014-2025', publicado por la Fundación de Estudios de Economía Aplicada (Fedea), calcula que alrededor 1,95 millones de personas en España sufrían «pobreza oculta» en 2025, es decir, no eran consideradas pobres por su renta, pero caían bajo el umbral tras asumir el coste de la vivienda. Consciente de este problema que preocupa a gran parte de la ciudadanía, el Ayuntamiento de Móstoles ha dado un importante paso para ampliar la oferta de vivienda protegida con la aprobación de dos convenios con la Comunidad de Madrid que permitirán adjudicar 249 viviendas de protección pública destinadas al alquiler en Móstoles Sur . «En Móstoles, la vivienda es una de las grandes preocupaciones de la familia, y aquí seguimos dando pasos para encontrar las mejores opciones», explica en un vídeo el alcalde del municipio, Manuel Bautista . Las 249 viviendas se repartirán entre dos promociones de la Agencia de Vivienda Social de la Comunidad de Madrid. La primera contará con 71 viviendas de protección pública para arrendamiento, además de locales, trasteros y garaje. Estará situada en la parcela FR-81 de Móstoles Sur, entre las calles Casiopea e Hydra . La segunda promoción será de mayor tamaño, con 178 viviendas de protección pública destinadas al alquiler, además de locales comerciales y aparcamiento. Se levantará en la parcela FR-63 , también en Móstoles Sur. En ambos casos, las viviendas deberán permanecer destinadas al alquiler durante un periodo mínimo de 20 años. El 75% de ellas estará reservado a vecinos de Móstoles que acrediten un mínimo de diez años de empadronamiento en la localidad. El acceso a etas viviendas estará también dirigido a personas o unidades de convivencia cuyos ingresos anuales se encuentren entre 1,5 y 5 veces el Indicador Público de Renta de Efectos Múltiples (IPREM) , de acuerdo con las condiciones establecidas en los convenios. «Gracias al compromiso con Móstoles por parte de la Comunidad de Madrid , estas promociones suponen un importante paso para incrementar la oferta de vivienda con algún tipo de protección en nuestra ciudad», ha manifestado Bautista. «Son 249 oportunidades para que los mostoleños sigan viviendo en su ciudad e inicien aquí su proyecto de vida », ha añadido. Estas dos promociones forman parte de una estrategia más amplia del Ayuntamiento de Móstoles para incrementar el parque residencial de la ciudad. Los planes parciales SUS R1 y SUS R4 permitirán activar más de dos millones de metros cuadrados de suelo urbanizable. Junto con el Plan Parcial SUNC-4 , estos desarrollos permitirán la construcción de más de 13.00 viviendas , de las cuales el 60% contará con algún tipo de protección. El Gobierno municipal también ha puesto en marcha este año el Plan Especial para el cambio de uso de locales a vivienda, una medida con la que prevé incorporar hasta 3.000 viviendas en diferentes zonas del municipio aprovechando espacios actualmente cerrados y sin actividad. Asimismo, el alcalde ha vinculado el desarrollo residencial de Móstoles con otras actuaciones previstas para mejorar las comunicaciones de la localidad. «La movilidad mejorará. La línea 10 de metro llegará a Móstoles. Y la conexión con la R-5 está en camino», ha revelado.
