General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

Última hora de la entrada de inmigrantes a Ceuta, en directo | Marlaska, Albares, Robles y Bolaños comparecerán en el Congreso por la crisis en Ceuta
El Gobierno registrará este viernes en el Congreso las solicitudes de comparecencia a petición propia y en periodo extraordinario de los ministros Fernando Grande-Marlaska, José Manuel Albares, Margarita Robles y Félix Bolaños para explicar la crisis migratoria en Ceuta por la que entraron más de 72.000 migrantes ilegales desde Marruecos. Fuentes del Ministerio de la Presidencia, Justicia y Relaciones con las Cortes han informado que los ministros comparecerán a finales de agosto. El jefe del Gobierno, Pedro Sánchez, presidirá este viernes una reunión telemática de coordinación con varios ministros sobre la situación de Ceuta. Sánchez ha convocado esa reunión, en la que participará desde la residencia de La Mareta, en Lanzarote, para abordar la evolución de la situación que se vive en la ciudad autónoma una semana después de su visita a la misma tras la entrada masiva de personas procedentes de Marruecos. En el encuentro participará la ministra de Defensa, Margarita Robles; el de Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska; la portavoz del Gobierno y responsable de Inclusión, Seguridad Social y Migraciones, Elma Saiz; y la de Juventud e Infancia, Sira Rego. Además, la ministra de Juventud e Infancia, Sira Rego, viajará este viernes a la ciudad autónoma de Ceuta para seguir trabajando en la acogida de los niños, niñas y adolescentes migrantes no acompañados que permanecen en la ciudad tras la entrada masiva del jueves de la semana pasada. Rego mantendrá reuniones con el presidente de Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, con el delegado de Gobierno en la Ciudad, Miguel Ángel Pérez, y otras autoridades, y tendrá encuentros con organizaciones de protección a la infancia.Seguir leyendo
