General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

Este sábado aparece marcado en rojo en el calendario de los responsables del Ministerio del Interior, pero también en el de las autoridades marroquíes. En las redes sociales circulan desde hace días mensajes que alientan a repetir las escenas vividas los pasados 30 y 31 de julio con miles de migrantes entrando de manera irregular en Ceuta a nado, bordeando el espigón de El Tarajal. “La frontera de Ceuta estará abierta el día 15 [de agosto], festivo en España”, rezan algunos mensajes difundidos a través de internet para animar a participar en una nueva irrupción masiva. Ante ello, Rabat ha reforzado el puesto fronterizo de Fnideq (Castillejos en su denominación colonial española) con cientos de miembros de las fuerzas de seguridad apoyados por tropas militares, según se observa en vídeos que circulan desde hace casi una semana en medios digitales del país magrebí.
