General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

Marruecos ha exhibido este sábado la máxima fortaleza política y de seguridad como guardián último de la frontera de Ceuta. En una demostración inequívoca de quién ejerce el control total sobre el último mojón de la Unión Europea en África, las autoridades de Rabat han sellado la frontera exterior con un despliegue policial sin precedentes para frustrar el paso de cientos de migrantes subsaharianos y algunas decenas de magrebíes. Un representante del Ministerio del Interior de Marruecos ha ordenado la tarde de este sábado a los periodistas de Efe y TVE desplazados a Fnideq (Castillejos) que abandonasen la ciudad, donde se encontraban cubriendo información relacionada con la crisis migratoria que se vive en la frontera con Ceuta después de que los días 30 y 31 de julio unas 80.000 personas entrasen a la ciudad autónoma de forma irregular. Según ha publicado la propia Agencia Efe, los reporteros expulsados cubrían una carga de las fuerzas antidisturbios marroquíes para dispersar, “mediante el uso de gases lacrimógenos y porras”, a centenares de migrantes, en su mayoría subsaharianos, que trataban de aproximarse a la frontera. El Gobierno de España, que ha defendido la libertad de prensa “en todo momento y en todas las partes del mundo”, ha señalado que está buscando una solución para los periodistas. Seguir leyendo

Las fuerzas de seguridad de Marruecos han frustrado este sábado un intento de cruzar de forma irregular a la ciudad española de Ceuta de cientos de migrantes, en su mayoría subsaharianos, que se habían ocultado en las afueras de Castillejos, ciudad fronteriza con España. Cerca del mediodía, la policía de Marruecos ha cargado contra centenares de migrantes subsaharianos a las afueras de Castillejos. Han interceptado a 111 migrantes, en su mayoría subsaharianos, que intentaban alcanzar la frontera de Ceuta, y han detenido a 61 personas por incitar a la migración ilegal, según fuentes de seguridad marroquí citadas por Efe. El diario digital marroquí Hespress eleva a 249 la cifra de personas interceptadas que pretendían cruzar a España. La masa de subsaharianos se mantenía concentrada en una vaguada del barrio de Cerámica, el más cercano a la frontera; desde ahí, la policía marroquí los ha alejado forzosamente en autobuses fletados por las autoridades a diferentes partes del país, como a Uarzazate, a más de 800 kilómetros de la frontera con España.
