General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

Última hora de la entrada de inmigrantes a Ceuta, en directo | Más de 40.000 inmigrantes han entrado de manera irregular en Ceuta, según las primeras estimaciones
Más de 40.000 inmigrantes han entrado de manera irregular en Ceuta en los últimos días, la mayor parte el pasado jueves, según las primeras estimaciones que manejan las fuerzas de seguridad. Esta cifra supera ampliamente la registrada en la anterior crisis migratoria en la ciudad autónoma, la de mayo de 2021, cuando se calculó que burlaron los controles fronterizos más de 10.000 migrantes. El número de entradas que se maneja ahora —y que algunas fuentes elevan a cerca de 50.000— supone prácticamente incrementar en cerca de un 50% la población del enclave, donde hay censadas 83.600 personas. Esto se ha traducido en una importante cantidad de personas que desde ayer deambulan permanentemente por las calles de Ceuta y que han pasado la noche a la intemperie, mientras continúa el cruce de personas por la frontera desde Marruecos. El presidente del Gobierno, Pedro Sánchez, viaja hoy a la ciudad autónoma, mientras el balance de migrantes muertos al intentar entrar a nado en el enclave se ha elevado a 19. Decenas de vehículos policiales, tanquetas y hasta un camión lanza-agua describían en perfecta formación un despliegue de seguridad destinado a sellar la ciudad autónoma.
