General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

La UCO no encuentra movimientos sospechosos en las cuentas de Begoña Gómez
La Unidad Central Operativa (UCO) de la Guardia Civil no ha encontrado “movimientos” sospechosos en la cuentas de Begoña Gómez, esposa del presidente del Gobierno, Pedro Sánchez. Así consta en un nuevo informe enviado al juez Juan Carlos Peinado, que requirió a los agentes que analizaran diferente documentación recabada en la causa que mantiene abierta contra la mujer del líder socialista. “En síntesis, la información bancaria concuerda con el desarrollo de las actividades profesionales que Begoña Gómez ha venido desarrollando, en tanto en cuanto, las entidades a las que se ha vinculado profesionalmente se corresponden con los principales pagadores que se identifican”, concluye el documento, al que tuvo acceso EL PAÍS.Seguir leyendo

La tormenta de los nuevos datos aportados a la investigación sobre el rescate de la aerolínea Plus Ultra y sobre el expresidente José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, imputado en el caso, ha colmado la paciencia del PNV. Horas después de desvelarse un informe de la Unidad Central de Delincuencia Económica y Fiscal (UDEF) de la Policía Nacional, el líder de la formación vasca, Aitor Esteban, se ha expresado abiertamente, durante un acto del partido, muy duro con el jefe del Ejecutivo, llegando a pedir un anticipo electoral. Así, Esteban ha afirmado este domingo sin ambages que ve “irresponsable” que Sánchez siga más allá de 2026 con una “agenda descontrolada y judicializada”. Los comicios al Parlamento, en principio, están previstos para el año que viene, como reiteró el miércoles el presidente durante la sesión de control cuando mostró su respaldo a Zapatero. Antes de la imputación de José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, la Policía desglosó en un informe las cuentas del expresidente del Gobierno y todas las transferencias que había recibido entre los años 2020 y 2025, el tiempo en el que el juez José Luis Calama ubica una supuesta red de tráfico de influencias presuntamente encabezada por el exlíder de los socialistas. Hasta medio millar de personas participan y/o presencias las carreras ilegales de coches que se producen en Madrid , que son muchas más de las que se piensan. La Agrupación de Tráfico de la Guardia Civil ha detenido a inicios de esta semana pasada a once personas vinculadas a ellas. Organizaban 'kedadas', como dicen entre ellos, a través de canales de redes sociales, con poco tiempo de antelación para evitar que se las abortasen.
