General Information

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. It had a population of over 3.4 million in the city proper in 2025, and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.8 million. Madrid is the second-largest city in the European Union (EU), after Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, after Paris. The municipality covers an area of 605.77 km2 (233.89 sq mi). Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula at about 660 m (2,170 ft) above mean sea level. The capital city of both Spain and the surrounding autonomous community of Madrid, it is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

El PNV ve “irresponsable” que Sánchez siga más allá de 2026 por una “agenda descontrolada y judicializada”
Todo va muy rápido y los socios empiezan a moverse. La tormenta de los nuevos datos aportados a la investigación sobre el rescate de la aerolínea Plus Ultra y sobre el expresidente José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, imputado en el caso, ha colmado la paciencia del PNV. Horas después de desvelarse un informe de la Unidad Central de Delincuencia Económica y Fiscal (UDEF) de la Policía Nacional, el líder de la formación vasca, Aitor Esteban, se ha expresado abiertamente, durante un acto del partido, muy duro con el jefe del Ejecutivo, llegando a pedir un anticipo electoral. Así, Esteban ha afirmado este domingo sin ambages que ve “irresponsable” que Sánchez siga más allá de 2026 con una “agenda descontrolada y judicializada”. Los comicios al Parlamento, en principio, están previstos para el año que viene, como reiteró el miércoles el presidente durante la sesión de control cuando mostró su respaldo a Zapatero. Y La Moncloa se reafirma: “Tranquilidad máxima”, trasladan fuentes gubernamentales, que “respetan” “la opinión” de los peneuvistas, pero no la comparten.Seguir leyendo

Este golpe no es como los demás. El caso Zapatero, que implica en una trama de presunto tráfico de influencias al expresidente con más peso electoral, simbólico y moral en la izquierda, va directo al corazón del PSOE y más allá, porque afecta a todo el progresismo español. En una semana de hundimiento absoluto de la moral de ese lado del país, un dirigente socialista resume así una sensación muy extendida por todo su partido y buena parte del progresismo, que insiste en creer en la inocencia de Zapatero, pero acusa un golpe que puede ser definitivo porque revienta un final de legislatura agónico tras tres años muy difíciles: “Primero nos dispararon a una pierna, luego a la otra, después a los brazos, ahora al corazón, que es Zapatero, y ya solo nos falta el tiro en la cabeza, que es Pedro Sánchez”.
